It Begins

My First Blog. I received a recent email from a friend and have decided this is the best way to begin what me be a life-long blog or a week-long excursion. Nonetheless, his wise words are a beautiful beginning to any endeavor.

While I was thinking/talking about all of these things, I felt a heavy sadness come over me. But then I noticed that even deeper, below that, was joy. Joy for all of my friends, joy at the beautiful day, the beautiful park, the beautiful water and city in the background, all of the people out enjoying themselves, kites flying, airplanes buzzing overhead, and even joy for the sadness and hollow feeling that reminded me of how fortunate I have been to have so many amazing and painful people and situations in my life – joy for the whole damn thing. Maybe it was a brief and fleeting Mahamudra moment, but it definitely gave me a small recharge, whatever it was. (Donald Baumer III, Gas Works Park, Seattle, Summer 2010)
